{Sometimes Life Isn't Always Rainbows and Sunshine}

But it's still beautiful.

This picture right here is one of my favorites.  That emotion.  That tear.  {That grain.}  Happiness isn't the only beautiful emotion.  Sadness and pain can be beautiful too.  Any human emotion portrayed and captured by a lens is beautiful to me.

{Yes I'm keeping it real. And yes, I take pictures of my kids when they are upset. But only if the camera is already out. I wouldn't ignore their pain and go grab the camera but I think it's important to document the good with the bad. Get over it.  Although, I will tell you a bit of a back story as to not get web-lynched.  He was being a pill.  Completely fresh.  And he was in trouble.  In fact, he was supposed to be in time out.  I was sitting at my computer facing the living room taking pics of the girls when he came running out.  He fell and bumped his knee.  {Snap}  I calmly reminded him that if he was listening he wouldn't have gotten hurt to begin with.  That's when he got mad at me and snuck behind the chair.  {Snap}  He got a big hug and was sent back to time out.}

There's a real epidemic going around on the Internet of people posting only the good in their lives. God forbid someone find out that you and your spouse fight. God forbid the other soccer moms find out that your kids aren't perfect angels at all times.

I call this crap. If you're constantly only putting the good of your life out there and painting the "perfect" picture of your life? Well, that's a lot to live up to. And a lot of self inflicted stress. Life isn't perfect. Embrace the bad with the good. Don't set unreasonable goals to it. Life is unreasonable enough.

If you're having a bad day, share. If you're super bitchy and PMSy and want all the chocolate now, share. If you want to absolutely lock yourself in the bathroom just to get away from your kids for 2.5 seconds, share. If you had a fanfreakin' tastic day, share. If your spouse surprised you with a date night, share.

Share the good and the bad.

There are days that I log onto Facebook or go through my blog roll when I just feel not good enough in a sense.  I'm not perfect.  But when I click through blog after blog of beautiful {tidy} homes and smiling {sparkly clean} children, it's hard to want to share if your life isn't just as perfect.

But Angela, we want to show off our pretty houses and children.  Yes.  I know.  And I want to see them.  Just not ALL THE TIME.  There has to be a day that you just don't want to do it all.  A day that the laundry sits for a week a little too long in the basket and everyone is wrinkly.  Don't be afraid to post those pictures.  There must be a day when someone pissed you off or made you sad.  Don't be afraid to share those stories.  There must be a year and half that you're taking pictures in your living room and the curtain that one of the kids cut is still hanging all messy and gross.  Don't be afraid to post those pictures.

Ok, that last one was for me.  And I do post those pictures.  I'm not afraid.  I should however, just fix the curtain.  I know.
Sometimes life isn't always rainbows and sunshine. But it's still beautiful.

  1. I try not to post too much bad on my blog because I'd hate if people thought I was complaining. It's not that there is no bad, but I like to focus on the good!!

  2. I agree with you. I feel like so much of the time we're aspiring to be magazine perfect here in the blog world, that we lose our humanity in the process. I know sometimes I may hold back when I'm having a bad day, but I try to remember to share that part of my world because that what keeps it real, and that's what keeps my blog human.

  3. This made me cry! You touched me deeply, Angela. I posted on FB last week when I was overwhelmed and felt guilty. It's hard. I vow to share more of the good and the bad. Thank you for this. <3

  4. Love this post. Very True. I find myself forgetting to blog about the bad...I've done it plenty of times but not often enough. Thank you for sharing!

  5. i'm all about balance (libra!!!) but i hate when ppl use social media as a constant bitch-fest. i know it's easy to vent there, and we all want our feelings to be verified, but man i get tired of constant complaining...so yeah, balance :)

  6. This is how I feel. By the way, you just reminded me of the 3 loads of laundry waiting to be folded and those dishes. Some people (esp my boys' grandparents) expect that my house should be clean 24/7 that the only mess should be a few toys and so on but that's not how it works. We have messes, things don't get done right away, my oldest runs around in a shirt and underwear most days, but I wouldn't change it for anything :).
